The number of importers has doubled, but producers need support

Approximately 40 importers are currently active in Ukraine. This was told by the executive director of the Association in the interview to the Ukrainian news.

"The amount of importers has doubled and is now 40 companies. This is more than active gas producers. We are welcoming the opening of the market and strengthening of competition. However, the gas producers are willing to repeat the success of the trading industry, to make the industry attractive to the foreign investors", said Opimakh.

He stated that trading gas is much easier, since the margin is almost guaranteed, while the risks are much higher in gas production.

"It takes 5-7 years to develop a field, and the necessary investments total to 30-50 million dollars. This is why we are saying that this area of the economy, which is paying more taxes, creates workplaces, and attracts capital investments and advanced technologies, should be stimulated by the government to be competitive in terms of international investments worldwide", noted Opimakh.
