During the Ukraine Energy Security Conference, Executive Director Artem Petrenko discussed the country's energy potential. The event, organized by the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine and the Embassy of Canada in Poland in collaboration with the Government of Alberta, brought together representatives from Ukrainian and Canadian businesses, government bodies, and leading experts to discuss relevant issues and foster cooperation.
"The gas production industry in Ukraine is rich in resources and holds great potential for development. Canada, with its relevant experience and technologies, can assist our country in unlocking this potential to its fullest capacity", stated the head of the Association.
According to the Ukrainian Geological Survey, the potential oil and gas reserves on the Ukrainian Black Sea shelf alone are estimated at 2.3 billion tons of fuel equivalent, which is equivalent to about 2.3 trillion cm and accounts for approximately 40% of all energy reserves in our country.
In addition to the shelf, the Eastern and Carpathian oil and gas regions are promising for development. The potential of unconventional hydrocarbon deposits in Ukraine, including tight gas formations, amounts to 1.2 trillion cm of technically recoverable reserves.
"Attracting foreign partners to the industry will help Ukraine not only to ensure its gas supply but also become a gas exporter to Europe, strengthening the region's energy security. Increasing gas production will also allow for the development of related projects that are necessary on the path to a green economy. These projects include hydrogen production and transportation via the Ukrainian Gas Transmission System (GTS), methanol production, and carbon capture and storage projects," summarized Artem Petrenko.
