The Executive Director of the Association, Artem Petrenko, participated in the international forum "United for Nature. Agenda for Ukraine", organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. The event brought together representatives of embassies, international agencies, and the business community to assess the impact of the war on the environment and further steps for Ukraine on the path to decarbonization.
During his speech on the panel dedicated to the decarbonization of the production industry, the head of AGPU noted that natural gas is a key fuel during the green transition and will remain a main element in long-term energy security.
On the path to climate neutrality, Europe has bet on gas and, for the first time, included it in the EU's green taxonomy. The IEA forecasts that the demand for this resource will peak by 2030, while over the next three decades, its consumption will be slightly above today's levels.
"For Ukraine, gas remains the main energy source, and the industry - a significant sector of the economy. Even during the war, we have two significant achievements: the country was able to increase production and, for the first time, is going through the heating season without imported resources", emphasized Artem Petrenko.
Under challenging conditions and daily shelling, gas producers continue to work to strengthen the country's energy security. In their activities, producers conscientiously comply with current legislation and apply modern methods and global practices aimed at decarbonization.
We thank Minister Ruslan Strilets, Deputy Minister Yevhenii Fedorenko, and the entire team of the Ministry of Environment for organizing the forum, the invitation, and discussing important issues for the sector.
