Executive Director Artem Petrenko participated in the 3rd Conference on Energy Law and spoke about the energy sector's challenges. During his speech, he emphasized:
"Ukraine courageously fights against Russian occupiers, enduring daily rocket attacks. Despite all the difficulties, dangers, and recent media reports, businesses continue their operations. Companies produce gas, pay taxes, provide employment for Ukrainians, and support the army. Today, everyone is working towards victory and doing everything possible to achieve it as soon as possible".
He also discussed the progress of gas trading on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange, noting that in a month and a half, Naftogaz purchased over 652 million cm of Ukrainian gas from producers and traders. This is one of the effective mechanisms for supporting private companies and allows for continued investment in the sector. However, staying informed and continuing discussions regarding the possibility of partial exports is essential.
"A full-scale war is ongoing, and the energy sector faces new challenges. This includes preparing for the upcoming heating season and the crucial task of getting through winter without relying on imported resources, focusing on domestic production. Gas transit via Ukraine is also at a record low, and the risk of a complete shutdown is high. Therefore, the issue of comprehensive optimization of the Gas Transmission System (GTS) is quite urgent. Furthermore, ensuring the security of gas facilities, which regularly come under attack by terrorists, is of the utmost importance", said Artem Petrenko.
